    Description

Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe was captured by the British on the 18th February 1815, ending monarchical rule in Sri Lanka. A stone pillar stands erect to remind one of the historical incidents.

D’Oyly reporting on this incident wrote to the British Governor from the King’s Granary at Teldeniya, the day follow the capture, thus:

“dear sir, - I have the sincerest joy in reporting to your Excellency that the object of you anxious wisher is accomplished, and the king of kandy is captive in our hands.”
