    Description

Maha Maluwa at beginning was a land belonging to the Maha Vasala. (Royal Palace) It is hither than the ordinary people flocked when the last king gave audience from the Pattirippuwa (the Octagon).

Today Maha Maluva remains an historic place with an arresting stone pillar at one end within which the skull is preserved of Kappetipola Nilame, the incomparable Sinahalese hero who led the great Kandyan rebellion of 1817-18 to wrest back the country’s freedom from the British and filling, paid the price of defeat with his life.
